Recap of the Tom Chapin Concert

PCS hosted a wonderful community event on January 20th: Tom Chapin and his bandmates, Jon Cobert and Michael Mark, played an hour-long concert in the St. Barnabas sanctuary. Our very own music teacher, Patty Kendrick, started it off with a sing along, then we welcomed Tom and the band. They performed songs from their new cd, like "Puppy at the Pound" along with some old favorites such as "What Do You Do With a Didjeridoo?" The song "Alphbet Soup" had the audience doing the hand motions along with the music; we also learned the signs for "Family Tree." For the last four songs, "Great Big Words," "Walk the World Now Children," "This Pretty Planet," and "Together Tomorrow," the PCS children were welcomed on stage to sing with the band.

We had over 300 people attend the concert, and many stayed for the reception afterwards, perusing PCS materials, including a projected slideshow, sharing snacks, buying cd's, and meeting the stars. Teenie and Mary and the children made several creative displays for the reception to go along with some of Tom Chapin's songs: a family tree with portraits drawn by the kids, some very pretty planets, and a selection of great big words.
